For a few days, I have had nausea in the morning and during the day, could it come from my medication? I take Naproxen (500 mg) twice a day, Prevacid once a day, ferrous sulfate tablets, calcium and vitamin D tablets and B12 vitamins. I am past 60 (so not pregnant!) and do not drink alcool, but I drink coffee at breakfast. Should I increase the prevacid ? This nausea is bothering me.

Amanda replied: "Iron supplements make me so nauseated. Are you taking your pills with food? That can help a lot. The nausea could also be caused by the caffeine in the coffee if you drink quite a bit of it. If you think that might be the case, either cut back or do what I did and switch to making half decaf and half regular pots of coffee."

imsety replied: "See your health care provider as soon as possible (pharmacist) for reevaluation of your medications. Medications are the most common cause of nausea and vomiting in the elderly. Whereas viral infections are the most common cause in children and young adults. When viruses are to blame, diarrhea is usually present as well. And good luck."

Anyones baby been on Zantac and Prevacid at the same time? My baby 5 weeks old... he thows up alot, it even comes out of his nose.. he was diagnosed with reflux and was given Zantac 3 times a day... it seemed to help with the cryin, but not with the throwin up, so now the doc added Prevacid Once a day and he is still taking the zantac... anyone else done this? Did it work.. im so over this reflux... i want my baby to get better....

Sherr replied: "IS HE TAKING THE AR FORMULA AS WELL? WHY IS YOUR BABY TAKING Prevacid"

KarenJ replied: "Wow. I have never heard of them being used in tandem. Have you seen a pediatric GI specialist yet? If so, I strongly urge it. My son's condition was finally managed when I took him to one. The pediatricians mean well, but they are not specialists. My son is on 15mg of prevacid 2x per day and has been so since he was 2.5 months (he is 6 months now). Sometimes, I need to supplement with Mylanta, but only when he is really uncomfortable (like when he is super droolly from teething - the drool makes the acid reflux ten times worse). No medicines will help him from having reflux - they will nuetralize it so that it does not burn his esophagus and cause him pain. The best way to help with the reflux itself is to keep your little guy elavated for 45-60 minutes after each meal. Burp him often (every 2 ounces). Here are some sites for resources for you: (has a chat forum with mommies who are experts on the subject and have been through it all!) (a medicine and dosing site)"

Baby refuses to have formula, while already on prevacid!? My 9 month old baby boy had been diagnosed with reflux since he was 4 months old. He was on zantac(twice a day), then axid(thrice a day) and now prevacid (once a day). All this is in vain since he still refuses to drink his formula hypoallergenic formula. We have tried Nutramegan but he woudn't even like it near his mouth. So we switched back to Alimentum. But as soon as he takes a little he just turns his face away. He is also extremely fussy about his solids (stage 1 gerber). He usually takes the forumla when he is fast asleep. Since the past two days he has hardly eaten anything. We had done a Barium swallow test and that came out to be negative. The GI says we just have to stick to it... but we are at our wits end now!! Since he is not spitting up anymore, we don't know if it is still reflux or he has colic or something else!! What else can we possibly try now????

Is zinc, Prevacid and cyproheptadine a good combination? I am currently giving this prescriptions to my 16 month old son, he has been diagnosed with failure to thrive: 1ml zinc once a day - appetite stimulant 15mg Prevacid once a day - GERD 2.5 ml Cyproheptadine once a day -antihistamine, appetite stimulant Yes, all these has been given to him by his PCP and GI doc... as far as the zinc I think that's given not as an appetite stimulant but rather to help metabolism and/or absorb other nutrients he might not be absorbing properly. And yes, he has had a sweat test and an endoscopy negative for celiac.

Doctor J replied: "What is the CAUSE of your son's failure to thrive? Has he been tested for Celiac Disease? Best wishes and good luck."

michelle c replied: "I am surprised you are giving Zinc as an appetite stimulant, as it often causes nausea. Also, it seems cyproheptadine may cause growth suppression (though I can't find conclusive studies). However, you are asking if it's a good combination. Did the doctor prescribe this regimen? If so I'm guessing he is a pediatric specialist, in which case he has much experience with this and knows what he's doing. If you are concerned ask him, another physician, or the pharmacist filling your prescriptions."

does anyone know if this is normal being on prevpack and prevacid? my dad was recently put on the prevpack and prevacid precription 30 mil he takes the prevacid once a day and th eprevpack is 4 pills in the morning and 4 in the night he is also on coumadin which is a blood thinner and simvastin a cholesterol med and metroprolol to slow down the heart he started the prevpack yesterday morning and took it again last night and then again this morning came home from work and he said he feels horrible no stomach pain he said he cant explain it just dont feel right he was diagnosed with hpylori bacteria in his s tomach and a fast heart beat also would these meds that he just started the prevpack and prevacid make him feel this way very worried

jade4e83 replied: "yes"

Joe M replied: "Puff, did you get my previous answer? The prevacid dose seems quite excessive, however depend on stage of his GI ulcer(s). The H-pyori is a very common cause of ulcers, Treatment with antiacids such as prevacid and short term antibiotic is appropriate. The coumadin and metroprolol and simstatin are not related. Joe"

Jenn replied: "hey dear plz call his doc. as i said b4 i do not think its a good idea to mix all them meds. the human body can only handle so much b4 shutting down. and al these meds are def missing with his liver. plz be careful. c if there are any meds he can cut back on while hes on prevacid. hyplori is prone to cause an ulcer in his stomach. the prevpack and prevacid are suppose to heal the infection but with all the meds already in his system they may counteract agst each other. check on this will a reg doc. and a heart doc. good luck dear talk to you soon...jenn"

Have u heard of a baby being on Zantac and Prevacid at the same time? My baby 5 weeks old... he thows up alot, it even comes out of his nose.. he was diagnosed with reflux and was given Zantac 3 times a day... it seemed to help with the cryin, but not with the throwin up, so now the doc added Prevacid Once a day and he is still taking the zantac... anyone else done this? Did it work.. im so over this reflux... i want my baby to get better.... And i dont want to be over medicating him... if this isnt going to help the throwing up, i dont want to give it to him.

TweetyBird replied: "You won't be overmedicating him. The Zantac works best immediately after meals and the Prevacid works best for overnight. The two meds work in different ways. Your child should improve in time. The problem is that the muscular valve at the top of his stomach (cardiac sphincter) is weak and allows stomach contents to back up. On top of this, the infantile stomach is horizontal and contents come back up easily, which is why babies tend to spit up anyway. After feeding, keep him upright for one hour to allow his stomach to empty. Don't bounce or play with him. Elevate the head of his bed to 30 degress to allow gravity to assist in keeping stomach contents where they belong and use a sheet as a sling between his legs, anchored to each side of his crib to hold him in place and prevent him from sliding. Do not place him on his left side -- that's the side the stomach is on and pressure on the stomach can encourage regurgitation. As he matures, his stomach will drop into the adult position. He will likely outgrow the reflux. Speak to your son's pediatrician about adding Reglan. Reglan (metaclopramide) improves mucsle tone of the cardiac sphincter. It is most important to prevent aspiration."

steveangela1 replied: "No infact that is very common to give those two together, or to give prevacid and axid together.. Those 2 medications act in a different manner, so it will not be double dosing..."

3 1/2 month old with reflux will only eat when asleep or very very sleepy. ? My 3 1/2 month old daughter has been having problems with reflux since 1 month old. We've tried every milk on the market and now we are on Nutragimen. She is also taking 15mg of Prevacid once a day. Still, when she is awake, feeding her is a struggle. She will sometimes take in 2 oz and then pull off the bottle and refuse to eat any more. Other times, you can't even get the bottle close to her. Has anyone had this problem? Doc says she is just scared of eating because she has associated eating with pain, but now with the prevacid, she shouldn't be in pain anymore. Feeding her has become so stressful. I cry every time it's time to eat :( Help!! Just to clarify, I'm not adding the prevacid to her bottle. I dilute the tablet in a Tsp of water and give it to her through a syringe. She doesn't seem to mind the taste.

Debbie V replied: "Time to start watery solids. She's not associating the spoon with pain, not yet. So I'd mix a little rice cereal with formula and a sprinkle of sugar. See if she'll let you feed her. She won't know to open her mouth, so you'll have to pry it open using the baby spoon to press down before you unload the food. Lol. That was a lot of fun, I remember. Maybe your problem is the way the prevacid tastes. Certainly don't mix that into her bottle. I think that's more likely your problem, because she tastes that stuff and doesn't want to drink milk because the prevacid is tasting so yucky. Best wishes, TX Mom"

Aubreysmomma01 replied: "This is a time when you wish you could have known something like this would have happened, then you could have breastfed, but try putting some rice cereal in with her milk. If you have tried this already then i am not sure what to do? Maybe slowly try and introduce cereal on a spoon?"

dovile k replied: "you kno my baby does the same thing and I keep asking is it possible that my baby could have reflux? all the crying all the spit up and throwing up and all they tell me that im over concerned about my baby Im so sick of it. Im almost 100 percent sure that he has it by just reading this cause he does the same thing. I usually wait 1 hr or so and feed him again but sometimes he acts very hungry takes the bottle and starts crying again so I give him his pacifier let him suck on it for a little and take it out and give him a bottle again which works sometimes."

stomach hurts at least once/twice a day? i started having stomah problems a couple years ago so i went to a specialist, got some tests run, and they said i had a minor inflamation in my stomach lining. they just diagnosed me with GERD and gave me prevacid to take. well the prevacid worked for a little while but now it has no affect. i did some research and my symptoms were a lot like those of people who have celiac's disease (gluten intolerance) so i recently cut out gluten from my diet. that worked for about 2 weeks and i was pain free. now i am still off gluten but i have terrible stomach pains at least once a day. any ideas of whats causing this? thanks for your help

tiggsy replied: "No. Go back to your doctor and kick up a stink until he takes this seriously. Tell him you would rather he found out what is causing this, rather than just dishing out meds to treat the SYMPTOMS. I'm not saying it's anything serious, but it needs looking into."

Severe Chest Pain When Eating, I think its in my esophogus..HELP? I was taking the medication Minocycline and one night i got the feeling of the pill being stuck in my chest. It was painful at first and over the next few days it got worse and worse. We called my doctor and she said it was possible that the lodged pill had caused an ulcer on my esophogus. She prescribed me Prevacid to take once a day and said if it wasnt better in a week to let her know. But it is VERY painful, like acid is eating away at my chest and stomach. Has anyone ever had an experience like this, or have any suggestions on what i could do to help until the medicine starts to help?

Ken F replied: "That sounds horrible. I would think that a pill would eventually dissolve and neutralize itself over time. If you suspect acid runoff, a banana is a good neutralizer for the stomach. As for the throat area...perhaps keep drinking water and stay upright until it passes. Go in to see the nurse/doctor if it doesn't improve...maybe the ER."

wheeza7geeza replied: "Get your doctor to prescribe you Omeprazole or Losec. This is very good for acid reflux, and bad acid reflux. Good Luck!"

Tina E replied: "no i never exerienced that before but i hope you feel better maybe your eating to much fat that whats causeing all the acid try eating low fat foods maybe it will help you feel better"

Pinky replied: "You likely caused an ulcer on your esophagus. Eat soft foods and drink lots of cool liquids until it begins to heal. There is also liquid Tylenol that you can take to help with the discomfort. I have to get bands put on my esophagus every six months and this causes ulcerations. I am on IV's, then liquids only, then soft diet only until it heals. The healing usually takes from five to ten days. Good luck."

Lab Coat Larry replied: "Call a doctor quick."

dr russell replied: "i think you have esophagitis. it could be secondary to acid refluxing to your esophagus. Aside from medications, other things you can do is to avoid spicy food, overeating, and try to avoid lying down immediately after eating. Due to the pain, i suggest that you see a gastroenterologist and have a scope done"

edmartinsianghio replied: "Minocycline hydrochloride, also known as minocycline, is a member of the broad spectrum tetracycline antibiotics, and has a broader spectrum than the other members. It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic. It is primarily used to treat acne and rosacea as the once daily 100mg dosage is far easier for patients than the four times a day required with Tetracycline or Oxytetracycline. Although minocycline's broader spectrum of activity, compared to other members of the group, includes activity against Neisseria meningitidis, its use as a prophylaxis is no longer recommended because of side effects (dizziness and vertigo). It may be used to treat certain strains of MRSA infection and disease caused by drug resistant Acinetobacter. I have no idea why you are taking this drug but it is essentiasl that I know so we can cocnclude if it is a mere allergic reaction to the drug or if it really did get lodged in your esophagus. Give me a follow up ok? To treat the pain, drink lots of fluids especially of you will be swallowing pills and it would be best to take it with meals to avoid gastric upset. Better yet, go to the hospital and ask for an UGIS (Upper gastrointestinal series) or barium swallow to clearly see what is going on with your gut. The doctor will say what test will be best for you anyway. Good luck and god bless."

Jonny B replied: "Yes, I'm going through it right now. I took some supplements before going to the gym and they got stuck in my esophogus. This was 3 days ago, and it still hurts but not too bad. I was prescribed Maalox with something like a numbing agent mixed together. I'm finally up to chicken noodle soup and oatmeal. I feel your pain friend, I was born with a smaller esophogus than most people so I always tried to take my pills smartly, but ooops. Motrin does help with the pain, pills of course so i had to break them in half to take them. I've been reading from other med websites that the esophogus will repair itself quickly if it was just pills but you have to check what kind of ingredients are in the pill to see if it actually ate away some lining in the esophogus. Keep us posted on how your doing and what remedies you may have used to eleviate the pain, I'd like to know too. Take care friend."
